It's Monday and I am worn out! We had a crazy weekend here. Friday morning, David left for Granville, Ohio to attend his Thompson Collectors Show and Shoot. (After the election this weekend, he is now president of the Association, woo-hoo! I know you are so impressed, snicker snicker) With David gone for the weekend the girls and I had planned on having a totally fun and girly time.
Friday started off well, we met friends at the pool around 11 and stayed there swimming, splashing and snacking until 1. Later we went to the grocery store and noticed the Blockbuster across the parking lot was having a clearance sale on previously viewed videos. We snagged Alvin and the Chipmunks and Enchanted for $10 a piece. We tried watching them when we came home but couldn't get the $@#*!! DVD player to work, so we settled for the Olympics.
Saturday morning we were up bright and early as we had to be out in front of a local Wal-Mart for an AHG service project. The girls were collecting items for HUGS duffel bags. The bags are given to foster children when they are placed in foster care. Since these kids usually leave everything behind, the HUGS duffel bags give them a little something that can be their own. I was very proud of the girls for their efforts, especially Amy. Amy is usually very shy but she did an AWESOME job of handing out our shopping wish lists to complete strangers. The down side of the day was keeping Allison occupied. We were in front of a busy Wal-Mart for 2 hours with not much in the way of entertainment. I had originally said I would be unable to stay and help b/c David was going to be out of town but only one other mom was willing to help so I got roped into it. Turns out I probably could have left Audrey and Amy with that mom since no other girls from our troop showed ..... Oh well, hind sight is always 20/20. After collecting donations we went to a nearby Subway for lunch. Next door was a Famous Footwear with a sale going on and I had a coupon. Audrey needs "back-to-school-shoes" so we thought we'd check it out. Have you ever taken a two year old shoe shopping? OY! While I was helping Audrey, Allison was busy rearranging all the shoes. She took down boxes, took out the shoes, swapped out styles and sizes, and then put the boxes back. I think I got everything put back the right way but ...... And after all that, still no new shoes for Audrey. My kids have narrow feet and apparently, can only wear Stride Rite shoes at the moment. Oh joy! Hopefully we can make it to the Stride Rite Outlet before school starts. Next we hit Old Navy and got some back to school shopping out of the way. Amy picked out a back-to-school dress and they both got navy cardigans and some white capri leggings to wear under skirts and dresses. Audrey also got two new white polos for her AHG Tenderfoot uniform. We were all exhausted when we finally made it home and decided we would just veg and have an all out movie fest. We were going to watch our new DVD's and the girls were going to feast on Bagel Bites, Chips and candy for dinner. BUT - I started to not feel so well and went upstairs to lay down for a short nap which turned into 2 hours of me down for the count in my bed. When Allison and I woke, we tried the DVD player and it STILL wouldn't work. I decided it was time for a new one and we headed out Best Buy. We got home, hooked it up - no video. The audio worked but there was no picture. I unhooked everything and discovered there was now no video for the TV either. No Olympics, no TiVo, no movies, nothing! We have a small TV in the basement but that was it and they really wanted to watch their movies. I fed them dinner, tried to figure out what was up with the TV and then gave up. They ended up watching Alvin and the Chipmunks on my lap top and didn't get to bed until almost 10.
Sunday was church and it is my month to work in the nursery so we couldn't skip even though I was VERY tempted. Off we went and during service I prayed hard for my attitude and my luck to change. It did. The kids in the nursery were better behaved than they had been the last two Sundays. David came home around 1-ish and fixed the TV and the DVD player. HOORAY!!!! And at 4 it was time for the annual neighborhood Family Fun Day. There were horse rides, a fire truck and ambulance to explore, a scavenger hunt, games and catered fried chicken and fixin's. We all brought our own drinks and a bunch of us brought desserts to share. I made two batches of brownies, 1 batch of chocolate, 1 batch of "blonde". The kids had a blast and I was just happy to have a chance to relax and chat with friends. I wish I had pictures. I brought my camera but left the memory card at home. David brought the card with him when he came later with Allison (who had been napping) but I only got a few pictures:

So today we are going to return library books and watch our movies and maybe play in the sprinklers or hook up the slip and slide. School doesn't start up for us until September 2 so we have two weeks left of summer and we plan to make the most of it.
