Weekend Report

I think this past weekend was the last "calm" weekend we'll have for a while. October is always so busy around here.

We kicked off the weekend by heading to Sam's for shopping and "dinner". The kids absolutely love that junky crap you can buy at both Sam's and Costco. What do you suppose it is? They always share a slice of pizza and then at Costco they share the frozen yogurt, at Sam's it's a pretzel. Oh well, it may not be healthy but we only do it sometimes and it sure does help with the boring shopping when the kids know the reward of really-bad-food-that-mom-almost-never-lets-us-get is waiting at the end. David came with so of course we looked at TVs and of course we didn't buy one. We currently have two TVs; one in the basement and one in the family room. The basement TV is my old TV from my single days. I think I bought it in the summer of 1996? It is ancient, it is small, it needs to be upgraded in the worst way. The DVD player hooked up to it died and I bought a replacement but the stupid TV is so old, you can't hook a modern DVD player to it. What I want is to get an entertainment center for the basement and then move the family room TV to the basement. Then I want to sell the entertainment center currently in the TV room (it's too bulky to move to the basement) and get a flat screen for the TV room which we can mount above the mantel. Then I could rearrange my family room furniture and you would actually be able to open the patio door without banging it into the back of the couch.

But I digress ... back to our weekend ---

Saturday we lazed around all morning and then headed out to Audrey's football game. David came this time so that was nice. Audrey loved having mom and dad there on the sidelines. Her team won again. YEA! Audrey did not play quarterback this time but she was center quite a bit. And the best little part of it - there was a boy from her class at school on the team they beat. (insert evil little chuckle from mom here)

Sunday was church and my last Sunday to work in the nursery for this month (I'm off the month of October). The Children's Ministry has put a big emphasis on service this fall. For example; Audrey and Amy spent part of their Sunday school time helping to wash toys from the nursery. In this spirit of service, the tweens and teens are encouraged to volunteer as assistants in the nursery rooms. Great idea in theory - but not so great in reality. Last week I had three teens in with me but I only had 5 little toddlers. It was more work to have the extra teens. This week I had 7 toddlers and two teens but the one teen was driving me absolutely batty. She was not suited to working with the wee ones and she had them so over stimulated I was about to shove her out the door! I am in the nursery during the third service which runs 11:15-12:15. My kids are between 1 and 2 years old. For many of them this is nap time or lunch time or a combo of both or coming up on one or the other. Regardless of their personal schedules, all of them really need a calm, relaxing environment - not some loud/yippy/giggly/hyper tween who is in their face and changing activities on them every 5 seconds. So after church all I really wanted to do was relax BUT during the sermon it hit me that Audrey had a tree planting thing to attend for AHG that I had completely forgotten about. So I took her to that around 2 and while she was earning her "Caring for my Environment" badge with her friends, I headed off to Michaels to get some ribbon for Amy's bday invites and then to WalMart for some take and bake pizza to eat while we watched the Cowboy game. (yeah, that's right, I fed my kids crappy Sam's cafe pizza on Friday and then crappy WalMart pizza on Sunday, I am the BEST PARENT EVER!) UGH - that Cowboy game - I don't even want to talk about it. How could we lose? at home? to the Redskins? All I know is we better win next weekend. We're playing the Bengals - I'm sure we will.

Speaking of .... Sunday is my birthday and the Cowboys play the Bengals. I sent out an eVite last week attempting to throw myself a game watching birthday party. Only ONE "yes" so far .... WAH! Nobody likes me, everybody hates me, guess I'll go eat worms ........
