A Post from the Trenches

In the trenches - that is how I feel lately. It's one of those times where it seems no matter what I do, I cannot get caught up nor can I "get it right". BLEH!!!!!!

What's been going on you ask? Well let's see if I can lay it all out ......

  • Thanksgiving was fabulous. It was just the 5 of us, again, and we did everything "our way" and loved it. We started off with a wonderful breakfast - sausage and egg casserole, donuts, and mimosas for us, plain OJ (of course) for the kids. We lounged around in jammies, stuffed the turkey, watched the parade ... Click here to see pics. We ate around 1:30 and then settled in for endless hours of football. Only bad thing was ....... the turkey. It looked beautiful, it tasted good, it wasn't raw, but it contracted a bacteria of some sort somewhere. David came home sick Friday, I got sick Saturday, the kids never said much but I think Amy was maybe a little sick (Audrey barely ate any turkey and Allison had none at all).
  • Sunday - we stayed home from church as a precaution and everyone seemed to be fine - I felt 100% better. Then we had turkey sandwiches for lunch. I felt a bit queasy in the night but that was all. David however was full on sick again Monday and Tuesday. Rather than try to figure out what was making us sick - all the turkey and stuffing were tossed along with the leftover breakfast casserole.
  • Monday was OK - it was an AHG Monday so those always cause a bit of a time crunch (and stress). Plus there was a leader's meeting after so David came to pick up the kids and take them home while I stayed. One of the little girls in my squad got left at the church. She was supposed to ride home with another mom and got lost in the shuffle so to speak. So I held her on my lap for most of our leader's meeting. It was a dinner meeting but I felt horrible eating in front of her. I waited until her mom came to get her and by that point I was ravenous!!! I got home after 8, no children had been bathed, no homework had been done but at least they had been fed .....
  • Tuesday - David goes to the dentist to pick up a little guard they had made for him. Apparently he clenches his teeth in his sleep. Not quite grinding them but not relaxed either. Anyway - this litle doo-dad set us back $400 and insurance is covering ...... ZERO. OY! Just what I wanted to hear. We just got the bill for Amy's cast, I am trying to shop for Christmas gifts, and I am already locked in to my trip to the Gaylord in Nashville ($300 hotel room, $117 tickets for the Rockettes, gas to and from, meals out......)
  • Wednesday - Audrey has dance and we get home at 6:30. Usually I have to be on the computer for Sylvan by 7 but I traded my Wednesday shift for some other shifts this week so I am looking forward to a relaxing Wednesday evening for once. I should have KNOWN that wasn't happening, RIGHT? ....... When we get home, no David. I see two missed calls on my cell and one missed call from him on the home phone but OF COURSE no message. grrrrrrrr He finally rolls in around 8 telling me his old boss was in town and took them all out for a nice dinner somewhere .........
  • Thursday-I went to Meijer's to do some holiday shopping while the older two were at school. I was pushing Allison's nap time but I wanted to get this done and I had another one of those dang coupons. Let me just give you the short version. I am NOT, I repeat NOT going back to Meijer anymore. I am DONE with it. Done with the griping about my reusable bags, done with the "bait and switch" advertising crap they pull, done with them ringing me up wrong, done with the total lack of customer service. UGH! I tried to use my new pulse card but the PIN wouldn't work so my stomach is in KNOTS worrying over whether or not I did the right thing by using the pulse card for the Austin bank account, Allison fought me on nap when we finally got home, I ended up picking up a teaching shift at the last second and then I realize stupid Meijer charged me for 2 bottles of Claritin when I only bought one. So after the older two get home, back to Meijer we go. AND - the big wigs for David's new company, Ceva were in town and David needed to go schmooze with them after work. I wanted him home but I knew this was important for him so ... He thought he'd be home by 7:30 or 8, he didn't get home until almost 9.
  • Tomorrow we leave at 6am for Nashville - I am almost packed but cannot find an outfit I like to wear to the Rockette show. I am feeling very plump and frumpy and grinchy and working my way towards a really good pity party. Hopefully the time with friends in Nashville will be just what I need. At least it will be warmer - it was 19 degrees here this morning and only supposed to make it to 27 or so. We have had snow off and on this week but no accumulation so far which is FINE BY ME!
