These are just a few of the cards the girls made for us over the days leading up to Valentine's Day. Most of the ones in this picture are from Allison. She is at that age where she absolutely loves sticking stickers on just about anything and everything. Lucky for her I had a huge stash of Valentine stickers left over from previous parties and such.
Our Valentine's Day this year was more of a family celebration than in years past. David proposed to me on Valentine's Day so usually we try to get out for a nice dinner, just the two of us. But this year we decided to have the sitter come during the afternoon. Caitlyn came over from 1-5 and David and I went out for a quick lunch and some kid-free shopping. We grabbed a bite at Chipotle - not romantic but the kids don't like it so I don't get to go that often and I love their vegetarian tacos. Then we went to our favorite furniture store, Verbarg's. It was so nice to leisurely stroll through the entire store without once saying "don't touch that" or "look with your eyes, not with your hands" or "we're almost done, I promise we'll be leaving soon". This place sells Stickley - David's favorite. They had a special going where if you ordered any Stickley you could get one piece 45% off. David came this close to ordering a $2000 chair. I liked the chair, it was gorgeous and oh so comfortable but really, there is so much more we need right now.....
So after mentally spending millions of dollars at the furniture store we headed over to the new fancy Kroger - the fake Central Market Kroger. We went to buy nice steaks and fun appetizers and desserts. While we there I saw the "sweetest thing". There was this young boy (oh alright, young man) in the meat department. He had in hand a bottle of wine and some chocolate covered strawberries. He was in khakis and a white button down with a tie. He was looking at the butcher with a look of disbelief mixed with fear as the butcher was reassuring the young man that yes, he really could cook this cut of meat and it really would turn out. I'm not sure what the butcher was selling but you could tell the boy was trying to find something he could cook that would dazzle some fair maiden. And you could also tell he did not feel overly confident in his cooking skills. Later we saw the same boy headed over to the cards and gifts section and he was now carrying a package of something, the strawberries, some wine and a single rose. I nudged David and told him I just bet the boy was proposing tonite. Oh I so wanted to follow him and watch the whole thing play out ..... But then that would be rather stalker-ish now wouldn't it.
So home we went. We paid the sitter and feasted on a wonderful dinner as a family. Then it was off to bed for the kids. We had grand plans of champagne and strawberries and some nice brie and crackers but ... we were too full of steak and green beans and rolls and ice cream. So we sipped one more glass of wine and settled on the couch for a movie. I wanted "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" but David won out and we watched "Get Smart" instead .... oh well - not every Valentine's Day is meant to be breath takingly romantic ......
