So we were blessed with a few days of sunshine in between all the dreary rain and sleet. And the temperatures actually climbed all the way in to the SEVENTIES! And lo and behold - our first tulip bloomed!
There are some trees on our street that are in FULL bloom and they are gorgeous. I'll try to snap some pictures this weekend if I can.
I wish I had a recording of the weather people here and air conditioner service commercials that I could share with all my friends back home. Just like these yanks laugh at us when we go into total panic mode if the temperature goes below freezing and if anything other than rain falls from the sky or anything other than water collects on the ground - I have to laugh at their comments as we start to finally thaw out here.
"It's going to be quite warm this weekend with temperatures climbing all the way up to the mid-seventies in some areas. And on Sunday a few of you might even see 80! Can you believe it? 80 in April! It's like an early summer!"
(ummmm ... yeah ..... Since when does 75 degrees = "quite warm" and ...... I like it to be 80 by February, thank you very much!)
and then there's
"Summer is coming and it's going to be another hot and humid one here in Cincinnati. Make sure you are ready and have ___________ come service your air conditioner unit"
(right, hot and humid in Cincinnati .... have you ever been to Houston? New Orleans? - yeah THOSE are cities that know HOT and HUMID my friends!)
But
I will give the north this
Watching everything BURST into color after sooooooo many l-o-n-g months of nothing but brown and grey. Watching the trees and bushes and flower beds that have looked so barren and dead suddenly look so alive does tie in rather nicely with the whole resurrection theme of Easter. I must say, I never truly appreciated the timing of our Easter holiday as much as I do now.
