February so far .....

February has turned out to be quite the eventful month here!

We kicked it off with a small family party for the Super Bowl.  Allison and I did some pre-party baking:

While the older two thoroughly enjoyed the cozy fire we had going:

Thanks to the annual Elfa Sale at The Container Store I got a snazzy new pantry.  David started on it the same weekend as the Superbowl and about week later - I had everything back in and organized.  I love it! love it! LOVE IT! And yes I know, I already devoted a whole post to the pantry but what I can I say .....

And then we endured snow storm after snow storm. The poor kids were so thrown off their schedules!  They went to a full week of school for the first week in February.  But the second week they went to school Monday, but then Tuesday and Wednesday were snow days, and then they were back at school Thursday and Friday. We got hit again that Friday as they were getting home from school and a party Amy was supposed to go to on Saturday was cancelled. The third week in February they were already scheduled to be off Monday and Tuesday for President's Day (we get two days off, I have no idea why).  We were pretty much snowed in those two days so they probably wouldn't have gone to school anyway. We had actually planned to take a short family trip over the 4 day wekend but ended up staying put.  I did let the older two each invite a friend to sleep over Monday night to kind of make up for it so they were happy.  Today is only Tuesday of the 4th week of February but so far it looks like they'll have school all 5 days.  There is snow in the forecast but it should be fairly light.

And then, in the midst of all our snow fun ....

Allison and I went to the Children's Museum and renewed our membership.  She really enjoyed spending the day there - just the two of us -

Allison also got her first fancy salon haircut.  Allison is a hair twister.  It is how she puts herself to sleep.  She has done it ever since her hair grew long enough and before that, she played with and twisted my hair as I rocked her.  Well - one morning (it was actually the morning we spent at the Children's Museum) she woke up with a huge knot in her hair.  I tried my best to get it out but I couldn't.  After seeking advice from Aunt Jessica, I called the hair salon and asked if they could squeeze us in.  They could and after about 25 minutes, the hairdresser was actually able to untangle it all without having to cut it.  But since some of the hair did break off, we scheduled a full haircut appointment and here are the results:

Then we had a nice little Family Valentine's Day.  David shoveled a path out to the grill so he could grill steaks There were strip steaks for us and flat iron steak for the girls; Baked potatoes and salad; and a nice cabernet for us and sparkling grape juice for the girls :

And the girls helped me make brownies from scratch for dessert:

After President's Day, Uncle Eric came for a quick little visit.  Allison was in love.  She asked if he could stay "wif us foh-evah" ... awwwwww ...... I didn't get any pictures until the day he left. The girls are in their jammies and Allison is being "aloof" and hiding behind her mask:

(the older two are going through a new phase.  they insist on sleeping in my old t-shirts.  do you see the one Audrey has on?  yeah, that would be a SWATCH t-shirt of mine from the early 80's!!!!)

The reason Allison even has a mask to hide behind?  The older two went to a Father Daughter Dance sponsored by American Heritage Girls.  It was a "Masquerade Ball" and each girl was to design and create her own mask.  When I bought the masks they came in a package of three so Allison got one too.  Here are Audrey and Amy showing off their masks, and their fancy "ball gowns", with Dad:

And here they are "unmasked":

My heart was just so full of emotions when I sent them off that evening. I don't even want to think about homecomings and proms ..... But I will say this - when those events do roll around ... we are taking them to a salon or we flying Aunt Jessica in for hair duty.  My poor girls.  I tired to style their hair all fancy.  I busted out the aveda styling stuff, the round brush, the velcro rollers, the hair dryer ...... I really did try ....... but hey - at least it doesn't look bad - it just doesn't look fancy ....
