It's SUMMER!!!!

Summer is here!  Summer is here!

According to the calendar - according to our daily activities (or lack thereof) - and finally according to the weather - Sweet summertime is finally here!

And after that l-o-n-g winter I want to enjoy every single second of this summer.

The backyard garden was started over Mother's Day weekend and completed by Memorial Day Weekend. Here is a picture of my cucumbers and my lettuce- we also have tomatoes, peppers, basil, cilantro, chives, and spinach.

The school year that nearly killed me ended on May 30 and not wanting to waste one second I picked up my oldest and one of her BFF's from the Junior High and pulled the other two out early and we headed to our favorite local ice cream place - The Cone. In addition to great soft serve ice cream, they also have plenty of fun "rides" that all cost either 1 or 2 quarters.

We then enjoyed a fabulously lazy week where getting dressed each day was optional - well optional for the kids at least.  I was busy prepping for a special little girl's 8th birthday and a visit from my mother-in-law so there was quite a bit of errand running on my end.

The first weekend of our summer was a busy one.  We hit the St. Max Festival on Saturday - an annual tradition.  Although this year there was a new twist.  My oldest met a boy at the festival.  A BOY!  Eeeek!!! (Good thing her sister was there tagging along - I'm sure my oldest really appreciated that - lol)

Sunday was Allison's party and just like here sisters before her - her 8th birthday involved a sleepover.

Monday was "recovery" day and Tuesday we completed all the last minute preparations for Grandma's visit.

It rained for the first few days of her visit which caused us to alter some of our plans but the sun finally made an appearance and we spent Grandma's last evening in town playing in the backyard.

Grandma left Saturday morning and Sunday was Father's Day and the day we drove the oldest to summer camp.  Here she is checking in to her cabin with her two buddies:

This was her second visit to Camp Lakeview and once again she had a fabulous time.

While Biggest Sister was camping in Indiana, the other two girls spent a week at MAD Camp (Music/Art/Drama).  MAD Camp runs 9:00 - 12:00 Mon-Fri at a nearby church and the girls love it.  My oldest has aged out but served as a volunteer last summer and was a little bummed she would be missing it this year. Little Mister has tagged along for drop off and pick up for three years now and I know he is looking forward to the day he can actually attend.

And the weather which had been so rainy before was near perfect this week so we spent mornings at MAD Camp and afternoons at the neighborhood pool or playing water games in the backyard.  It was glorious!

And now I am looking at the calendar and it is already the last full week of June.  Time is flying by and we still have so much fun to pack in!

Next up: A quick visit from the cousins as they stop off here for a night on their way to Michigan
Then: a week of VBS at our "new" church
Then: the wedding celebration of a dear family friend
and then: a longer visit with the cousins as they begin their trek back to Texas.
And finally: a week at summer camp for daughter #2

And in between - more afternoons at the pool, visits to the library, of course a visit to a museum or two, and maybe even a few trips to a nearby amusement park - the older two have season passes and the 8 year old and I have 2 day passes. (Little Mr is still free!)

I LOVE SUMMER
